I am humbled and thankful to share that I have successfully defended my PhD dissertation entitled “Climate Change Education in Indonesia’s Formal Education: From Global Outlook to Potential Local Practice” on 30 June 2025.
This journey has been challenging, and at times filled with uncertainty and pessimism. But along the way, I found hope in the people I met, the classrooms I visited, and the possibilities that education holds for shaping a more sustainable and climate-resilient society.
I owe so much to those who supported me.
To my supervisor, Professor Yuto Kitamura, thank you for your guidance, encouragement, and trust throughout these past three years. I have come to appreciate the academic freedom you provided, which allowed me to become more independent and explore my interests without limitation. It has been an honour to learn from someone so widely respected in the field. I am forever grateful and indebted.
To my mentors at the Sustainable Society Design Centre at The University of Tokyo, especially Project Assistant Professor Laÿna Droz, Assistant Professor May Aye Naw Thiri and Associate Professor Eiko Saito, thank you for creating a safe and supportive space for me to grow both as a researcher and as a person. I could not have reached this milestone without your guidance and support.
To my defence committee members, Professor Yasuko Kameyama, Associate Professor Motoharu Onuki, Associate Professor Jing Liu and Lecturer Yu Oliver Maemura, thank you for your critical engagement with my work and for helping me identify areas for improvement. Thank you as well for recognising the value of my research and allowing me to complete this important milestone.
I also had the privilege of crossing paths with internationally renowned scholars, Professor Maria Ojala and Lecturer Essi Aarnio-Linnanvuori, whose works have deeply inspired and informed my research.
To all my seniors, colleagues, research participants, funders, and everyone who was part of this journey, thank you for supporting and believing in this work.
And most of all, to my parents, who taught me perseverance and the value of education. This is for them.
